Sweden has its Saab, Japan has its Subaru: an eccentric niche player in the automotive kingdom with a knack for selling strangely-styled pieces of machinery to really specific demographics. At least, that's how it used to be.But over the past few years, Subarus have been inching closer to normal by the minute, and the car you see here started it all. Born in 1990 as the Legacy, this creation set many firsts for Subaru - a powerful engine, standard all-wheel-drive, SUV-imitating "Outback" variants - all of which found acceptance and got passed to other models. The Legacy has always been the Subaru that knew how to fit in as it had the right measurements, class-competitive driving dynamics, and a face anyone could love. Yet Subaru also remains faithful to traditions that count for something - all-wheel-drive, "boxer" engines, and five-door body styles among them - and all are present in this latest version of the Legacy.
